Erika's Emporium - The Story

Erika's Emporium was created from a lifelong love of art, creativity, storytelling, and the belief that every journey has a story behind it. From a young age, I always loved creating. I was drawn to sketching, capturing expressions, and recreating the little details that make people unique. I loved textures, clothing, and the stories that could be told through art.

For over 20 years, I have worked as a graphic designer, building a career around creativity, visual storytelling, and bringing ideas to life. Through graphic design, I continued to grow as an artist while developing a deeper understanding of color, composition, detail, and how to create something that connects with people. Looking back, I realize that every creative path I took was leading me toward where I am today.

After experiencing personal loss and going through moments that changed the way I looked at life, I began to realize how important creativity and self-expression truly are. Life is unpredictable, and the things we create, the memories we make, and the connections we share are what give our journey meaning.

During the COVID era, I continued thrifting as I always had. I started noticing porcelain dolls that many people overlooked. I couldn't help but think about how many of these dolls would eventually end up in landfills, becoming just another piece of discarded waste. I wanted to give them a second life instead of seeing them become more unnecessary trash.

Working with dolls brought back a feeling of nostalgia and reminded me of the creativity and imagination I had as a child. There was something special about holding a doll again, seeing the possibilities within it, and feeling that same excitement of creating something new. It allowed me to reconnect with that playful, curious part of myself while combining it with the skills and experience I had gained throughout my life.

I had always loved horror movies, dark storytelling, and unusual characters, so I began to see those dolls differently. I saw potential. I saw a chance to transform something old into something completely new while creating art through reuse and sustainability.

Today, Erika's Emporium is where all of my creative passions come together. My background in graphic design, my love of characters, my fascination with the unusual, and my desire to create something unique are woven into every doll I make. Each creation allows me to bring together everything I love about art and imagination in a way that feels completely my own.
